Basic Instructions for Harmonious Travels

Person is Asleep is an auditory experience designed to enable and enhance astral travel within the imaginal realms. Existing in the liminal space between wake and sleep, these worlds have been the subject of intensive investigation and cartography by humanity’s myriad religious, spiritual, and magical disciplines.

To properly engage with this experience, we recommend the following best practices:

  • Use headphones. This audio uses special sonic mysticism which requires stereo headphones to work properly.

  • Give it your attention. This is a meditative, trance-inducing experience that requires your full focus and attention. Do not listen to it when you need to concentrate on the material world, especially while driving.

  • Be comfortable. This experience is best enjoyed while sitting or lying down in a comfortable position. We encourage you to listen to it in a quiet room where you won’t be disturbed or interrupted.

Sightseeing Essentials in Imaginal Realms

After orienting to your astral body, you will be lead through a series of “imaginal realms,” which are places solely accessible through the subjective sensory apparatus commonly called “imagination.” The accompanying audio will guide you in your explorations, and the tracks are presented in an order which we believe creates an optimal flow. Thus, we strongly suggest using the default sequence on your first few journeys.

However, in subsequent trips, you are welcome and encouraged to move the tracks into a playlist to reorder them to experiment with new routes and shorter journeys. The introductory “Astral Body Orientation” can also be used with audio of your own choosing or to induce non-soundtracked experiences. Please explore and experiment.

Returning to Wake or Sleep

At any point where you wish to do so, you may sink deeper into full sleep or emerge into waking consciousness. If you plan on using this experience as a journey into sleep, we suggest excluding the final track, “The Desert of the Real,” in which our vessel returns to the astral depot for cleaning and maintenance. If you wish to reenter waking consciousness before the audio ends, simply wiggle your fingers and toes, take several deep breaths, and bring your focus back to the sensations of being within your physical body. You should arise feeling refreshed and recharged, but in the rare situations where a sense of haziness or sleepiness persists, we suggest drinking a glass of cool water, enjoying some gentle stretching, and taking a quick shower.
